What is Grad Nite?

Grad Nite (GN) is an all night party for the SCHS seniors. Because more teenagers have died on GN than any other night of the year, MADD and the California Highway Patrol put together the Grad Nite Organization to support parents in running and organizing a secure, activity-packed event. It is quite simply a way to keep our seniors off the streets and safe. We keep them entertained, fed, happy, active and locked in! Once they arrive, they cannot leave until 5:00 am. GN is also the last evening our seniors can share with all their classmates. We, therefore, do not allow seniors from other schools to attend.

GN will happen on campus June 20, 2012 in and around the transformed gym. Check-in starts at 9 pm. We like for all the seniors to be lined up to get in by 9 pm so the doors can be shut as close to 10 pm as possible. We start check out at 5 am. If anyone has special circumstances, we want to accommodate them; special needs seniors will be accommodated; students leaving on trips will be accommodated if at all possible.
GN is secured with fencing and is crammed with themed sets, murals, loads of activities, game booths, raffles, a DJ, casino, poker hall, climbing wall, various live entertainment throughout the evening and more. There is complimentary food, non-alcoholic beverages, water served all night. Each ticket comes with Grad Bucks. Ticket sales plus contributions from the community & parents like you make it all possible.

The cost of GN has been kept as low as possible. The ticket includes a T-shirt, Grad Bucks and everything at GN. They need nothing else but their ticket, photo ID and a sweater or jacket to enjoy GN.

Construction in the gym starts June 8th. Double Grad Bucks are earned during set up and 2nd shift of GN. Volunteers for tear down earn triple Grad Bucks which begins at 7:00 am the morning after GN.

Remember: we can’t do it without you! Thanks for your help and support!

2012 GRAD NITE PHOTO COLLAGE – ATTENTION SENIOR PARENTS

One of the highlights of Grad Nite for the graduating seniors is seeing their surprise photo collage displayed in the Photo Tunnel when they first enter the transformed gymnasium for Grad Nite. All along the walls are the many photo collages made by parents for their seniors which represent special events during high school and favorite moments with friends and family. Color photos or black and white are fine; we suggest white or neon poster board about 20 x 20 (it doesn't have to be those exact measurements but we get a lot of collages and need to be able to fit them all in – so please don't make them too large.) Highlighting around the pictures or leaving white space between them helps them show up in the tunnel which is lit with black light. After completing the photo collage it must be laminated to comply with fire codes or it will not be placed in the tunnel. Most office supply stores can laminate the collages or you can purchase laminate to place over the collage yourself. Please drop off the completed collage to the media center/library by June 10th or directly to the Gym during the week of construction for Grad Nite. Please tell your senior to take home their collage at the end of Grad Nite if you would like it returned. Any questions please email reneecox@cox.net.
